OA Role in Governance
The tradition of faculty governance at UO was created in the university's charter and continues today in effect as state law. OAs can participate in university governance in the following ways:
1. The University Senate has been established as the sole governing body of the university in all matters of faculty governance. The senate consists of 48 senate seats distributed among officers of instruction, librarians, officers of administration and students as follows:
- 37 officers of instruction;
- Two librarians;
- Three officers of administration;
- Five students; and
- The president of the senate.

2. The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) is elected by the
university faculty to provide the president with faculty opinion and counsel
on a wide range of university affairs. Its membership is comprised of four
members from the College of Arts and Sciences, four from the professional
schools and colleges, and two officers of administration.

3. The Officer of Administration Council (OAC) brings together the UO's diverse group of administrative faculty to promote and facilitate communication, identify and address pertinent issues, share information, enhance professional identity, and create opportunities for collegiality.
